BRITISH TEST RIG MANUFACTURER GROWS ITS BUSINESS IN AMERICA

British powertrain test equipment manufacturer, Geo Kingsbury, set up a sales company in Cleveland, Ohio at the start of 2000 and reports strong trading in America in the first year of operating its US subsidiary.

Orders were taken in the US and in South America, notably Brazil and Mexico where agencies are currently being set up, to the value of US$7.25 million in the 12 months to February 2001. This was up 83 per cent on 1999 when sales were transacted directly from the group’s Gosport headquarters and factory in Hampshire, England.

Anticipated business including some firm forward orders for 2001 will show a further 50 per cent increase in turnover generated in America compared with 2000.

Heading Geo Kingsbury USA is Larry Hauser who was instrumental in setting up the business, identifying new sales opportunities and hiring local technical support staff. He has a BS in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in International Business Management and over 20 years’ managerial experience in industrial equipment sales and international market development.

Since 1960, Geo Kingsbury has custom-designed, built and installed worldwide more than 1,000 test stands, one of the primary assessment tools in today's automotive manufacturing industry. Customers include Eaton Corporation, Borg Warner, Fiat, Land Rover, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, ZF-Meritor and New Venture Gear.

Although Geo Kingsbury specialises in test equipment for transmissions, transfer cases, axles and differentials, it has also manufactured test cells for steering components, cylinder heads, hydraulic valves, alternators, starter motors, clutches and both electric and hydraulic motors. The stands, designed for both development laboratories and end-of-line production applications, simulate actual vehicle loading conditions and allow powertrain components to be tested and evaluated through the full range of in-vehicle operating conditions.
